The Book You Should Buy Your Daughter, But You Won’t Because Since I Don’t Have Kids, I Clearly Don’t Know What The Fuck I’m Talking About

Heather Corinna is a personal hero. For a number of years she has been running Scarleteen, a website dedicated to clear advice without judgment for teenagers who have questions about sexual health and also (and so important) sex itself. She never cloaked herself in the “I just want you to be healthy” rhetoric. Heather thinks teens should have great sex lives, but that they should be educated enough to define that for themselves. Sex lives does not mean sexually active… it means understanding that sex is part of your life, and controlling how it happens. Is this too complicated for you? Then please get this book for you, your kids and everyone else you know who can’t figure out that humans are sexual and the sooners we put down all this pretentious psuedo religious crap and start educating kids about sex (both biologically and emotionally) the better for the kids.

I love that she tells teens that the best first sex partner they can have is themselves.

We hear a whole lot about who should be our first sex partner. We’re often told it should be someone we love and who loves us back, someone committed to us long-term, perhaps even with someone we plan to spend the rest of our lives with.

And it should be. That person is YOU. you, all by yourself, have all of those qualities and abilities, more than any other person.
