“The national policy of promoting abstinence-only programs is a $1.5 billion failure and teenage girls are paying the real price.” – Cecile Richards, PPA

Not that I’m surprised but 1/4 of all 14-19 year old girls are infected with an STD.  Most of the infected have HPV so we’re looking at a steep rise in cervical cancer among teen girls.  So not only is abstinence only education failing girls, but it is endangering their lives.

If I was at all involved in the legal profession I would get a group of teenage girls who were diagnosed with pre-cancerous HPV and sue the shit out of everyone involved in abstinence only for willfully ignoring the evidence that the lack of proper sex education will cause STDs.

My favorite part of this is reminiscing about how these “educators” (quotes sarcastic) tell girls that having sex gives you cancer and makes you insane.  Remember that?  Turns out it isn’t sex, it is unprotected, uneducated sex.  The kind of sex that kids are having under this ridiculous policy.

Give out condoms everywhere.  Make them free.  Make them available in every corner of every school.  Teach girls how to protect themselves.  Stop giving them cancer.
