Hello Republican Strategeries.

4 Sep

Yes, you are right.  It is far easier to run against the media.  The media is an easy enemy and widely seen as a tool of the left, which makes no sense.  As Helen Thomas said, I’d love to meet this liberal media.  Where the hell are they?

But it is a good strategy, in that Homer Simpson way, to make the fight between the Republicans and the press.  Avoid actually engaging Barack Obama or Joe Biden in any sort of actual debate.  This ends with Homer sleeping in the back yard though right?  It always does.

Let’s just say we are on the same page.

It just doesn’t seem fair. Your VP pick is a woman who advocates abstinence only, with a pregnant teenage daughter, and a four-month-old, and the media can’t comment on any of those things without being labeled sexist? But at the same time, it’s perfectly fine when that same liberal media foments chatter about whether the other candidate is a Muslim (which is unacceptable in this country.)

Beth! You’ve got a blog! Congrats? (How late am I?)

Um…now I know I’m crashing the love-in, but Ms. Palin leveled some pretty pointed attacks on Senator Obama…I think y’all need to get a clear view of your new adversary, or she’ll be taking big bites out of your candidate for some time to come…I’m speaking purely from a “horse race” perspective here (shredded metaphors notwithstanding) 🙂

    Rock On Beth!

But I wasn’t talking about her speech, though her speech did level some pretty out there attacks. I was talking about the Republican response to the press cycles about Palin’s daughter being pregnant, her lack of experience, etc. They are all about the media. They aren’t about the issues. Whatever Palin says, because she is so inexperienced, it is being overwhelmed by this new accusation — that the media is making a “mean spirited attack on a helpless woman.” A woman, who, by the way if you are going to be a fan of hers, said that female candidates have to work harder. She also had no idea what the VP did all day, so that is comforting.

The point, was that the Republicans can’t win a candidate to candidate fight. Palin appeals to a radical right not a thinking middle class. So instead, they engage the media, who are easy to make into rabid sexists. Of course the media are sexist, they just aren’t being sexist in a way that wins the election this time. When they were all up and down Jamie Lynn Spears and reporting every kick of her baby, they were helping the radical right win because they proved the lack of family values on TV. But now, the “media” are making Palin into a news “scandal.”

Everyone has to play on the same field. She wants to play with the big boys, then nothing is off limits. I get to talk about her daughter’s “choice” because it is a choice she wants to deprive me of if elected. So either she plays or she doesn’t. This “Palin vs. The Media” thing has to end. Now.

Oh yeah, and HI JOHN — how are you???? 🙂

ps I also think they chose her to engage the media. Great strategy. Not good leadership.
